A video is showing the capabilities of the new Aadhaar Application sheds some light on the authentication process. When presented with a QR code or an Application that requests identity verification, the Aadhaar Application will prompt the users to enter their security PIN to unlock their APPLICATION and begin authenticated.
Users will then be presented with a masked, digital version of their Aadhaar card in the Application. They can scan a QR code, which shows the information (for e.g: name, date of birth, and masked mobile number of the user) requested by the service provider. Which can be a hotel reception desk or a shop.
If a user chooses to go ahead with authentication process, the application will be prompt them to position their faces in circle in the middle of the screen shown on the application. This application requires a user to blink their eyes in order to complete the authentication process, and a conformation message will be displayed to the user that their identity has been verified successfully.
While the redesigned Aadhaar application might streamline the authentication process and cut down on the use of physical documents, experts are saying that this have warned about the security of their users biometric information on centralized services. Facial biometrics, fingerprints, and iris scans are immutable and cannot be changed unlike passwords and security codes and leak could put enrolled users at risk of their identity theft and others forms of misuse.
